Succes - Vinicola - 'Patxanga' Rose - 2021
Catalunya, Spain
Gooseberry - Peach - Grapefruit
This winemaking tale happens in the small appellation of Conca de Barbera, located just a stone’s throw from the Atlantic Ocean in the region of Catalunya. A couple that was brought together by their love of wine. Initially the project was facilitated by “Viver de Celleristes,” a winemaking facility that allowed young entrepreneurs space to create their wines. They eventually moved to a more permanent winemaking residence in a garagiste winery. With them being so new to the Conco de Barbera appellation, other local growers assumed the couple did not know what they were doing as they were using organic methods. Mariona and Albert take part in all the work together. The wines are made in a natural manner, which is progressively becoming more and more of a focus in The New Spain. Trepat is not widely known, though if you’ve ever enjoyed a Cava rosé, you probably enjoyed this core grape variety from northeastern Spain. Succes saw the potential in this lighter-toned red as a wine that didn’t need to be sparkling. “Patxanga” is not only a football street game, but also a type of music played during local festivals in Penedes; clearly the wine is meant for summer!
